Reverend Calvin McTier, Ph.D., was called to the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he has been leader and chief since February 13th, 1994.
Rev. McTier is married to the former Cynthia McCoy. They are parents of twins, James Matthew and John Mark.

Rev. Calvin McTier was born in Montgomery, Alabama where he attended and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1973. Rev. McTier would further his education at Alabama State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1977 and a Master of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1981.
Rev. McTier did not let those degrees stop him, going forward to receive a Certificate in Christian Education in 1983 from Howard College, an extension of Samford University. He continued his studies and earned a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Mathematics Education in 2007 from Auburn University.

Rev. McTier found his calling as a teacher. He started his professional career and created a full circle moment in 1978 by becoming a teacher of mathematics at his high school alumni, Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery. In 1981, he would join the faculty at Alabama State University as a mathematics instructor and worked many years in the Department of Advancement Studies. Currently, Rev. McTier is an Associated Professor in the Department of Curriculum as well as an instructor in the College of Education at Alabama State University.
His professional and civic affiliations include being a member of the National Baptist Convention U.S.A. Inc., Montgomery Baptist Ministers' Union, Outstanding Young Men of America, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, E.D. Nixon Foundation, Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He is a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Montgomery.
